Why I Love This Recipe

A kid-friendly recipe, Asian Chicken Drumsticks are a healthy main dish with minimal effort! These tender chicken legs are savory and lightly garlicky, with the perfect bite of crispy skin.

The easy 6-ingredient marinade is a savory, umami blend of coconut aminos, fish sauce, lime juice, fresh ginger and garlic. They infuse the chicken to produce an extra tender and flavorful bite!

Any meal with lots of hands of time is an instant favorite in my book! And, this recipe has always been an hit in my family. We can't get enough of chicken drummies in the Adams household! Even my uber picky 6 year old peeled off a bite of these.

Additionally, this recipe is not only perfect for everyday meals, but also reheats beautifully in the oven. (See Cooking Tips below). Marinade these chicken legs while prepping some sides or overnight for an extra quick weeknight dinner!

Marinade Tips

You can marinade these drumsticks anywhere from 30 minutes up to 24 hours. Allowing the chicken to set in the marinade for longer than that can cause the meat fibers to break down too much resulting in mushy chicken.

This is the brand of coconut aminos I always use.

How to reheat

Additionally, Asian Chicken Drumsticks reheat nicely. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Then place chicken legs on a baking sheet and heat for 8-10 minutes until warmed through.

Storage

Finally, this recipe can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.

Serving Suggestions

Keto: with cauliflower rice, Lemon Garlic Green Beans, coleslaw, roasted brocooli, or sautéed spinach.

Paleo/Whole30: with any of the above or Stir Fry Vegetables.

Gluten Free: with any of the above or on a bed of your favorite rice. Jasmine rice is my favorite, I also like white or brown rice with this recipe.

  • Aluminum foil optional
  • 1 large wire rack optional
  • 1 gallon storage bag

  • 1 lemon zester to grate the fresh ginger

Ingredients

  • 13 chicken drumsticks I buy the family pack

Marinade

  • ⅓ cup coconut aminos
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon fish sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic minced or grated
  • 1½ teaspoon fresh ginger grated (about ½" fresh ginger)

Instructions

Marinade

  • Add chicken drumsticks to a large storage bag.
  • In a small measuring pitcher or bowl add coconut aminos, lime juice, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Use fork or small whisk to thoroughly combine.
  • Pour marinade in bag over chicken, press to remove air and seal tightly. Shake bag to get the chicken coated in marinade. Place bag flat in refrigerator. Marinate 30 minutes up to overnight flipping once halfway through.

Bake

  • Preheat oven to 425℉. Cover baking sheet with aluminum foil and top with wire rack if desired. Place chicken drumsticks in a single layer on baking sheet or wire rack.

  • Bake 35-38 minutes until internal temperature reads 165℉. If the drumsticks are cooked on a wire rack the skin should come out nice and crispy. If the drumsticks are cooked directly on a baking sheet broil an additional 4-8 minutes to create crispy skin. Enjoy!!
