Simple Homemade Marinara Sauce is quick and easy to make. It is bursting with zesty Italian flavor in a rich tomato sauce. This healthy marinara is paleo and Whole30 compliant and contains no added sugar.

Why I Love This Recipe

Marinara sauce is the thinner, more robust version of traditional pasta sauce. It is bursting with flavor and easily boosts the tastiness of any weeknight meal. This recipe is quickly made and ready to eat in only 16 minutes!

Not only is Homemade Marinara Sauce vegan, vegetarian, paleo and Whole30 friendly, it has only 11g carbs and 9g net carbs per serving. Serve as is, or drizzle this sauce on top of grilled chicken, bratwurst, or seafood with sautéed veggies.

You can also use it to liven up gluten free pasta or spiralized veggie noodles. My favorite vegetables to spiralize are zucchini, butternut squash, and sweet potato. You could add some grilled chicken, shrimp, Italian sausage, or salmon for a boost of protein.

Cooking Tips

The longer you allow the garlic and spices to toast and infuse the olive oil, the more robust in flavor your sauce will be. Likewise, if you allow the sauce to simmer longer, it will develop a richer flavor.

This recipe calls for my Homemade Italian Seasoning. You can definitely use store bought Italian Seasonings. However, the flavor results will vary.

Make sure to cover the pan with a lid when simmering. This will keep your marinara sauce from evaporating and cooking down too much.

This recipe calls for you to use tomato paste not tomato sauce. If you use tomato sauce the recipe will turn out too thin with the added water. If you only have tomato sauce on hand and want to make this sauce, don't add the water called for in the recipe.
