Homemade Italian Seasoning a simple recipe and so versatile! This fresh, healthy blend is tastier than store bought. Plus, it's cheap to make and will quickly become one of your family's go-to seasonings!

Why I Love This Recipe

Most store bought Italian spice blends are heavily fennel spiced. As I am not a fan of strong licorice flavor, I skipped it in this made from scratch blend. Homemade Italian Seasoning is made up of common pantry staples: parsley, oregano, basil, salt, granulated garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, and crushed red pepper.

This spice blend's flavor is reminiscent of seasonings found in Italian marinara/pizza sauce. It has the yummy herby flavor from the parsley, oregano and basil and spicy, zest from black pepper and crushed red pepper. Finally, this recipe is balanced out by the slightly pungent granulated garlic and sweet, earthiness of paprika.

How to use

The uses for this spice blend are endless! It's delicious on roasted potatoes, vegetables, poultry, fish, and pork. You can use it to amp up the flavor in soups, sauces, dressings, and marinades.

Storage Tips

Spice blends last a long time in storage! You can store this Homemade Italian Seasoning in an airtight container away from heat and light. It will stay fresh for up to 6 months.

You can buy spice jars or use plastic storage bags. However, I prefer to repurpose my emptied spice containers. For this seasoning blend, I used an empty dried parsley flakes spice jar. Then, if the label is easy to remove feel free to do that and add your own. I typically use a cut out a rectangle of paper or a sticky note taped over the old label of the spice jar. Good for your wallet and the environment, win-win!
