Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Soy Free, Paleo
This recipe replaces corn syrup that is traditionally used in pecan pies with mild, sweet and paleo friendly honey. It's packed with buttery, nutty pecans combined with an ooey, gooey honey and maple sugar filling with a hint of cinnamon. Give it a try and see why it's one of our favorite holiday pies!

Why I Love This Recipe
Shake up your traditional pecan pie recipe with this honey and cinnamon flavored Paleo Pecan Pie! It's buttery and sweet, loaded with pecans and baked in a tender, flaky gluten free crust. Perfect to serve for the holidays or any time you're entertaining guests!
Additionally, this richly sweet dessert comes together quickly. The tender homemade pie crust takes only 10 minutes before it's ready to bake. Then, the simple but decadent filling is easily whisked together. Finally, pour, bake and enjoy!
Plan your cooking accordingly as this pie, while super simple to make with lots of hands off time, does take a while to cook and cool. The longer cook time and 2-3 hour cooling time is essential to allow the filling to set completely!
Happy Thanksgiving!!
Tips for baking a gluten free crust
Gluten free pie crusts brown more quickly and burn easily compared to traditional crusts. So, the pie's crust will need to be shielded for most of it's time in the oven to turn out beautiful and tender around the edges. I personally prefer to:
- Cover the pie with foil for the first 30 minutes.
- Next, remove the foil and very carefully lay a pie shield around the crust for the next 10 minutes (because the crust will start to brown slightly even with the shield on).
- Finally, remove the shield and cook until the Paleo Pecan Pie is set about 5-10 more minutes.
Using honey instead of corn syrup
Honey is a little tricker to work with than traditional corn syrup or even paleo friendly maple syrup. It takes an extra egg and a little bit longer bake time to help this filling set fully. If you're patient in allowing this pie the full amount of bake and cooking time, you will be richly rewarded with a perfectly set pie!
Can I use a store bought crust?
To make this dessert even easier, use a store bought gluten free pie crust. I have never personally tried store bought pie shells. However, the crust linked above has good ratings and reviews and is where I would start. Please note this store bought variety while being gluten free, is not paleo. This is a good option if you're running short on time and looking for a pre-made gluten free pie crust.

📖 Recipe
Paleo Pecan Pie With Honey & Cinnamon {Gluten Free, Dairy Free}
Equipment
- 1 pie dish
- measuring cups and spoons
Ingredients
- 1 Paleo Pie Crust*
- 2½ cups pecans halves
- 2 teaspoon Saigon cinnamon
- 2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup honey
- 4 eggs, beaten room temperature
- ⅔ cup maple sugar
- ¼ cup melted ghee
Instructions
- Prepare pie crust per directions. Par-bake with dried beans, dried rice, or pie weights instead of poking holes in the crust. Otherwise, the filling will leak through the bottom. Allow to cool for 5-10 minutes.
- Pre-heat oven to 350℉.
- Add pecans to the bottom of pie crust.
- Whisk together Saigon cinnamon, vanilla, honey, eggs, and maple sugar. Make sure the ghee is cooled prior to adding it to the filling mixture so it doesn't cook the eggs. Add about 2 teaspoon melted ghee and stir into mixture to temper eggs. Add the rest of the melted ghee and stir well.
- Pour filling mixture over pecans.
- Either cover entire pie loosely with tin foil or cover the pie crust snugly with a pie shield as gluten free crusts brown quickly and burn easily** and set on a rimmed baking sheet for easy oven removal.
- Bake 45-50 minutes until center mostly set. It should have very little to no wiggle. See notes below to prevent the pie crust from burning.
